Join us to celebrate our local endemic Venus flytraps, one of the most wonderful plants in the world (Charles Darwin)! Horry County is home to wild Venus flytraps (Dionaea muscipula) and is the only county in South Carolina where they are found. They represent our local unique wild places including longleaf pine woodlands and Carolina Bays, all of which depend on prescribed fire.
We have 3 events for the 1st Annual Flytrap Fest! Please come out, we hope to see you! Please check each individual event for details.
Join conservationists, naturalists, and Venus flytrap fans at Bonfire - A Smokin' Taqueria in Conway to celebrate the start of Flytrap Festival 2026!
On Saturday, participate in the Flytrap 5K (a partnership with Horry County Parks and Recreation) or attend the conservation fair. There will be conservation groups and educational displays, including the debut of a mobile flytrap bog! Registration is required to participate in the 5K.
Get out into the longleaf pine woods with local naturalists to commune with nature and learn about the plants, animals, and unique landscape features including Carolina bays, found within the preserve and surrounding wild lands in Horry County. Registration is required to attend this event.
